Science, superstition can’t go hand in hand: V Ramakrishnan (Nobel Laureate):

“Referring to the launch of the Mangalyaan by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Professor Venkatraman said he was surprised to know that it was launched on Tuesday as it was an auspicious day and the Chairman of the ISRO paid a visit to a temple to seek blessings of the god. The scientist said if he was holding that post, he would not have gone anywhere 24 hours before the launch....”.

'What triviality, Mr. Vice Chancellor, Sir!' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I have been noticing over the years how some Government departments and  Public Sector Organsiations in the Tricity (Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali) hold big functions every year to release the yearly 'calender' got printed by them.

But this year Punjab University has taken the cake. When the Nobel Laureate Prof. Venkataraman Ramakrishnan was in Chandigarh on 6th January, he was made to release the "brochure" of the Punjab University Biomedical Sciences Institute by the Hon'ble Vice Chancelleor of the Punjab University.

What triviality Mr. Vice-Chancellor, Sir!
